A Maxity Electric For Deliveries In The Episcopal City Of Albi

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Established in the south-west of France since 1965, Transports Rivals carries out daily deliveries to shops in the centre of Albi. When this episcopal city became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the summer of 2010, the director, Eric Rivals, started investigating electrically powered delivery options: “For deliveries in the historic centre and our ‘last kilometre’, we thought that operating in electric mode would be a good solution and a means of creating new links with customers, make us stand out from the competition and open up new markets,” he explains.

During a presentation of the vehicle to different customers, Renault Trucks offered him the possibility of testing the Maxity Electric under actual operating conditions for 15 days. This test went far beyond all his expectations. Not only did the Maxity Electric carry out its assignments efficiently, but shopholders were particularly enthusiastic about it: “What impressed me most during this test was the reaction of our customers and local residents,” recalls the director.

During the test period, the vehicle was driven by a woman, Sabine. She immediately adopted the Maxity Electric: “This vehicle encourages you to drive more gently and be more ‘Zen’. At the end of the day, when my round was finished, I realised I was much less tired and much less on age than usual. It’s really like being in another world!” Her boss, who also took the wheel himself, was also won over by the vehicle’s .

Before placing the order, Eric Rivals wanted to be sure his investment would be cost-effective. Having had no help from the Government or local authorities, he managed to negotiate a significantly lower insurance premium and also arranged a longer than usual amortisation period with his bank. “If you include all the costs and all the savings made on fuel, limited brake wear, etc., the Maxity Electric only comes out 15% more expensive than an internal combustion vehicle.

CTA Blasts Mischaracterization of Truck Drivers in Subaru Radio Ad

Monday, November 14th, 2011

TORONTO – The Canadian Trucking Alliance is calling on Subaru Canada to remove one of its latest radio advertisements from the airwaves, saying it’s insensitive and offensive in the way it portrays hard-working Canadian truck drivers. In a letter sent to Subaru Canada president Shiro Ohta, CTA president David Bradley said the ad — disturbingly broadcasted in the form a mock traffic report about a truck driver who supposedly hasn’t slept in two days and is eating a bag of potato chips while at the wheel — paints an outdated caricature of the professional men and women who deliver our nation’s freight.

I assume that it was never Subaru’s intent to offend or convey a negative image of the trucking industry,” Bradley said as he called on the car company to withdraw the ad. “I also understand the advertisement is satirical and while I don’t begrudge a company from humorous marketing tactics (you need a sense of humour to survive in the trucking industry these days), this particular case comes at the expense of the hard-working professionals we rely on every day to deliver goods in a safe, reliable manner – some of the very same folks, frankly, that pick up and transport Subaru’s own products and vital just-in-time auto parts.

Specifically, the ad is based on a fictitious air traffic reporter who is warning car drivers stuck in traffic to keep their distance from a livestock hauler who looks as if “he hasn’t slept in two days.” It goes on to say the driver “is dozing off while trying to eat a bag of ketchup potato chips” and the situation “doesn’t look good.” A narrator then says the “roads are an unpredictable place so drive with confidence,” before promoting Subaru products.

I doubt Subaru would ever consider besmirching car owners –- your potential customers — in this manner. The hundreds of thousands of commercial drivers in the trucking industry, as well as their families and friends, are car owners as well.Bradley says the ad instills fear in consumers of sharing the road with trucks to promote Subaru products.

UPDATE: Subaru Ad Denigrating Truck Drivers Taken Off the Air

Monday, November 14th, 2011

TORONTO – The Canadian Trucking Alliance is pleased with the responsiveness of Subaru Canada in removing an advertisement from the airwaves deemed to be an unfair and unnecessary mischaracterization of professional truck drivers.Just a few hours after receiving a letter from CTA expressing concern with the radio ad, Subaru Canada’s public relations manager Joe Felstein informed the Alliance that the ad has been removed from rotation. He also apologized if the ad offended anyone in the trucking industry.

The ad was based on a fictitious traffic reporter singling out a livestock hauler who looked as if “he hasn’t slept in two days” and appeared to be “dozing off” at the wheel while “trying to eat a bag of ketchup potato chips.CTA President David Bradley recognized the ad was meant to be humorous, but said it makes light of an issue – highway safety in general and fatigue management in particular – that the trucking industry has gone to great lengths to improve upon.

There really was never any intent to offend truck drivers. Clearly, without the services that truck drivers provide, we wouldn’t have a business,” he told CTA. “Truck drivers deliver our products safely and on-time.We greatly appreciate the promptness with which Subaru Canada responded to our concerns,” Bradley said upon learning that the ads were immediately cancelled. “It says a lot about the company.

Learn about operating Isuzu diesel engines with Biodiesel (B5-B20)

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Isuzu diesel engines operate using ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD). For customers that wish to use biodiesel, Isuzu allows use of B5 blended biodiesel as long as the fuel meets ASTM D975 and D6751, however for biodiesel blends greater than B5, additional information and approval is required by Isuzu before these increased blends can be operated in your vehicle. The statements below are directly from the Isuzu Owners Manual. Please review them to further understand our support of these alternative fuels.

It is acceptable to use diesel fuel containing up to 5% biodiesel (B5), but the final blended fuel must meet the same specification, ASTM D 975 (Grade Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel), as other fuels used in your vehicle, and the biodiesel used for making this fuel must meet the latest version of ASTM specification D 6751. Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils or animal fat that have been esterified to reduce the possibility of damage to your fuel system and engine. The use of unesterified bio-oils blended into diesel fuel at any concentration is not approved by Isuzu and could damage your fuel system and engine.

Biodiesel blends between B6 and B20 could cause damage to your engine and fuel system if these fuels do not meet strict quality standards. ASTM D7467 has been established to specify the properties of B6 to B20 biodiesel blends. However, field quality surveys have shown that many commercially available B6 to B20 blends do not meet this standard and in fact can be very damaging to your engine. If you plan to use biodiesel grades between B6 and B20, please contact your Isuzu dealer.
