Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Suzuki Motor Corporation has established a distributor for Suzuki cars in Brazil. The Brazilian company, SVB Automotores Do Brasil Ltda., will import Suzuki cars from Japan and begin marketing them in October 2008.

Economic stability in Brazil has supported growth in the car market there since 2004; new car registration in Brazil exceeded 2.46 million units in 2007, and continued steady growth is expected.

Brazil is the only BRIC* nation where Suzuki has not had a presence thus far. Through its new partnership with SVB Automotores Do Brasil Ltda., Suzuki looks forward to expanding its business in the years ahead.

Suzuki receives approval to test new SX4-FCV fuel-cell vehicle on public roads, plans exhibit at G8 summit

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008
Suzuki Motor Corporation has developed a compact fuel-cell vehicle called the SX4-FCV and has received approval from Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to test it on public roads. Suzuki has been developing fuel-cell vehicles in partnership with General Motors (GM) since 2001. Thus far, it has tested three fuel-cell minivehicles on public roads with ministerial approval: the MR Wagon-FCV and Wagon R-FCV in October 2003 and the MR Wagon-FCV again in December 2004. The SX4-FCV delivers superior running performance by means of a GM-made high-performance fuel cell, a Suzuki-developed 70MPa hydrogen tank, and a light, compact capacitor that recovers energy during brake application and uses it to reduce fuel-cell loading during acceleration. Suzuki plans to test the SX4-FCV on public roads and use the results in development aimed at future commercialization. As part of its support for the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, which begins on 7 July, Suzuki will show the SX4-FCV in the Environmental Showcase exhibition and demonstration area at the summit’s International Media Center. Concept Kizashi 3: The North America-Focused Final Model in the Concept Kizashi Series

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Suzuki Motor Corporation has exciting plans to enter the midsize (D-segment) market in the third phase of its global strategy. At the 2007 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Suzuki wowed the motoring public by signalling its midsize intentions with the Concept Kizashi. Then at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki gave a further taste of its midsize production-car ideas in the form of the Concept Kizashi 2. At the 2008 New York International Auto Show, Suzuki will be unveiling the culmination of its flagship preview series: a midsize sport sedan called the Concept Kizashi 3. Suzuki's entry into the midsize segment Since launching the Swift in 2004, Suzuki has been pursuing a global strategy in line with its "Way of Life!" brand slogan. In the first phase of its global strategy, Suzuki focused on sportiness, launching the Swift, Grand Vitara, and SX4. In the second phase of its global strategy, Suzuki focused on family-oriented user-friendliness and environmental compatibility, launching the Splash and unveiling a design study for the subsequent Suzuki world strategic model. True to its spirit of innovation and challenge, Suzuki is now moving forward with the third phase of its global strategy ― a phase in which it will enter the midsize segment through an initiative first highlighted by the Concept Kizashi at the 2007 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. The theme of this phase is "status".

Suzuki has made a name for itself as a specialist in compact cars and sport utility vehicles. It sold 2,375,000 vehicles worldwide in 2007, and its mid-term five-year plan calls for production of more than three million vehicles in the fiscal 2009. But even with its ongoing sales and production growth, Suzuki needs to expand its car lineup beyond the compact-car segment in order to make a further leap forward as an automaker and accommodate the diverse lifestyles of customers who want to stay with Suzuki when purchasing larger, midsize cars. The future production model will be built at Suzuki’s brand-new Sagara plant in Japan, currently under construction, and provide an accessible alternative to the near-luxury segment, and while a firm timetable has not been announced, Suzuki will deliver a Kizashi-influenced sport sedan to North American dealers in 2010.

The Concept Kizashi series was developed by Suzuki’s Advanced Design Group to reflect a dynamic athlete in motion, taking design cues from a strong, honed physique while displaying the performance, strength and style befitting a flagship vehicle. The design theme began with Concept Kizashi, which made its debut at the 2007 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, and the Concept Kizashi 2, unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show last October, which further revealed Suzuki’s new design language. The Concept Kizashi 3 represents the completion of the Kizashi series and provides a closer-to-production vision of Suzuki’s future sport sedan offering. The Kizashi’s “super sport” identity, a core component of the Suzuki brand DNA, is tempered by the vehicle’s overall mission to provide strong, refined urban performance.

Evoking the physical superiority and dignity of a world-class athlete, the Concept Kizashi series was developed by Suzuki to create a substantial presence that redefines the traditional performance sedan and moves the Suzuki brand upscale. The overall design theme suggests physical strength from intense daily training, with the strong will, commitment and presence of a champion.

Suzuki Kosai Plant achieves 15 million units of automobile production

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Kosai Plant announced that it had achieved 15 million units of automobile production.

The Kosai Plant (the current Plant No. 1) was completed and opened in October 1970 specifically for production of mini passenger cars. The Plant No. 2 at the Kosai site started producing compact cars in August 1983 in line with a tie-up between Suzuki and General Motors. Since then, the Kosai Plant has undergone successive production-facility enhancements including a new assembly line at the Plant No. 1 in March 2002. The Kosai Plant achieved 10 million units of production in August 2000 (roughly 30 years after its opening), and it reached the 15-million-unit milestone seven years and seven months later.

Since a Fronte mini passenger car became the first vehicle to roll off the production line in 1970, the Kosai Plant has manufactured minivehicles including the Alto, Wagon R, Kei, MR Wagon, Cervo, and Palette and compact cars including the Cultus (Baleno), Aerio (Liana), Swift, and SX4. The plant continues to operate at full capacity thanks to factors including strong overseas demand for Suzuki compact cars and strong demand for Suzuki minivehicles, some of which are badge-engineered by Mazda and Nissan.

A ceremony attended by Suzuki President and COO Hiroshi Tsuda was held at the Kosai Plant to mark the 15-million-unit milestone. The 15 millionth car off the production line was a Wagon R.
