Yokohama Tire Corporation’s New ‘Tire Tips’ Educational Video Focuses On How To Choose A Truck/SUV Tire

FULLERTON, CA – Consumers looking for guidance on how to choose the right tires for their trucks and SUVs can get answers from Yokohama Tire Corporation’s third installment of Tire Tips, a series of short educational videos created to help people learn more about tires, from proper maintenance to improving fuel efficiency.

The “how to choose a truck/SUV tire” video is hosted by off-road racing champions Cameron and Heidi Steele. Cameron, who is also a TV commentator, was the host in the first two Yokohama Tire Tips videos: the importance of properly inflated tires and how to read the sidewall of a tire.

“It’s not easy trying to figure out what type of truck tire to get,” said Paul Algarin, Yokohama Tire product analyst. “As Cameron and Heidi explain, there are many factors to consider, including size, tread, performance and comfort. And who better to give truck tire tips than off-road stars like Cameron and Heidi? Their explanations are engaging and easy to understand.”

Algarin said future videos will focus on subjects such as ways to achieve better fuel efficiency, judging tread wear and choosing the correct winter tire. The next video is slated for September.

Solid New Vehicle Sales Result In July

Strong demand from private buyers and sustained interest in SUVs has resulted in another solid month of new vehicle sales.

Official VFACTS data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) showed that 82,376 passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles were sold in July, up 9.3 per cent (or 7,043 vehicles) on the same month in 2009.

“This is a very solid result for July with the start of the new financial year usually resulting in slower sales,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

“These figures provide further evidence that sales to private customers continue to increase strongly – recording a 20 per cent rise compared to this time last year,” Mr McKellar said.

“There is a proliferation of new models on the market at the moment that buyers are finding attractive, particularly in the SUV range,” he said.

The SUV segment was the strongest performer during July with an increase of 29 per cent; followed by light commercials (up 13.7 per cent) and then passenger cars with a 3.2 per cent increase.

Toyota was the top selling marque in July with 17,250 sales; followed by Holden with 10,648, then Ford with 7,375 units. Mazda, with 7,374 sales, missed out on being in the top three by just one unit.

Year-to-date, 613,544 vehicles have been sold, an increase of 15.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2009.

Ford is planning to reveal even more technology and great products to fuel its onward momentum. An all-new concept car will make its global debut at the show, and this will also be the first chance for Chinese customers to see the car that spearheads Ford’s next generation of global models, the next-generation Ford Focus.

Previewing the next-generation Focus
Beijing Auto Show visitors will be among the first to see the sleek, stylish, next-generation Ford Focus. It’s making a global preview tour well in advance of its market introduction in China.

Ford is showing the future shape of Focus because it will be the flagship of an important new portfolio of up to 10 vehicles from one new global platform. When the next-generation Focus goes into production in China in 2012, Ford expects global volumes of its new C-car family to reach 2 million units annually. The new Focus will be sold in more than 120 markets worldwide.

To learn more about the new technologies in the next-generation model, visitors can play a starring role in a film which highlights Focus technologies. Techno-talented visitors who become budding film stars can show their friends a copy of their starring scene via email.

A boost for Drive Green
Showcasing the company’s latest chapter in a global push for fuel economy, Ford will make further news in Beijing with its acclaimed EcoBoost engine technology, which is a core technology as Ford works to bring significant fuel economy benefits to millions of motorists around the world.

EcoBoost combines direct fuel injection and turbocharging to give customers a fuel-efficient, smaller-displacement engine with the power and performance they expect from a larger-displacement engine. Globally, Ford has already begun introducing EcoBoost engines, including a V6 engine with the power of a V8 and new I-4 engines with the performance feel of a V6 yet with up to 20 percent better fuel economy and 15 percent lower CO2 emissions.

Two large, orange robots help communicate the Ford EcoBoost story and showcase the EcoBoost engine on display.

Ford will demonstrate how EcoBoost delivers the “best of both worlds” for customers – great responsiveness and improved fuel economy – and show what’s in store for the Ford range in China, where EcoBoost will be introduced during 2010. Further details will be provided at the Beijing Show.

The Drive Green story also features the new Ford PowerShift transmission. It’s a new approach to giving drivers the great automatic transmission ease they expect with the fuel-economy efficiency previously only found in a manual transmission.
