SUV tyre Nokian Z SUV very recommendable in Auto Bild allrad Test

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

The SUV premium tyre Nokian Z SUV is rated “very recommendable” („vorbildlich“) by the German car magazine „Auto Bild allrad“ in its latest SUV summer tyre test. In all three test categories wet, dry and off road it gets the mark 2. The “strengths” of Nokian Z SUV: “low rolling resistance, balanced driving behaviour, amazing in the sand”. In rolling resistance it gets the top mark, making the Z SUV especially easy for the driver’s pocket as a low rolling resistance saves fuel. Further excellent judgements are: „traction sand 1-“, „wet circle 2+“ and „noise in the dry 2+“. „The Finnish Nokian performs outstandingly in the sand.“ “Very recommendable” is the best mark. The version for passenger cars, the ultra high speed tyre Nokian Z G2, also got a very good test result with the “ADAC judgement” “very recommendable” in the UHP summer tyre test 2009 of the German automobile association ADAC (UHP = Ultra High Performance).

Firm wet grip with the high-performing, comfortable summer tyre Nokian Z SUV for SUV

The tyre manufacturer Nokian Tyres from Finland offers a modern and competitive program range of SUV premium summer tyres. Its latest member Nokian Z SUV has a firm grip in the wet and is high-performing and comfortable – the result of the efficient product development, according to the specialist from the north. Nokian Tyres has fashioned its newest SUV summer tyre for power, sturdiness and comfort. Large and powerful urban SUVs demand tough durability and faultless performance from tyres. Drivers want the same. The three foremost properties of a SUV’s summer tyres are grip in the wet, durability and driving comfort according to a driver survey commissioned by Nokian Tyres.

The Nokian Z SUV, tailored for the demanding conditions, responds to the motorist’s wishes: it rolls quickly, handles easily and precisely and is light, but still strong. Being big and impressive, but elegant and fast, this specialised product has low noise levels and enjoys extreme conditions.

The tyre was designed for high speed categories for European motorists who demand safety and quality. The broad size range covers V- (240 km/h), W- (270 km/h) and Y-(300 km/h) speed categories with alternatives from 17 to 22 inches.

Roads in poor condition with holes and an uneven surface, with suddenly changing conditions and wet are home territory for the summer tyres developed by Nokian. That is why their plus points come into their own effortlessly in excellent conditions and on smooth asphalt.

Nokian HT SUV – a strong summer tyre for demanding SUV driving on asphalt and sand with off-road claws

Nokian’s family of tyres has grown with the addition of a hard-wearing and high-performing summer tyre intended for urban SUVs – the Nokian HT SUV. It offers high safety and strong stability with immediate, precise steering reactions and is designed for European consumers who appreciate quality. Although the Nokian HT SUV is at its best on asphalt, it also functions excellently off the main roads: with an SUV you can slip away from the smooth main road onto the twisty small roads; tracks that are covered in sand and gravel and difficult to drive on. For driving on sandy roads and other soft surfaces, there are off-road claws moulded into the shoulder area, bevels and straight cornered protectors. The off-road claws grip the surface of the road which makes traction and braking more efficient.

The wide range of sizes available for the T and H speed categories of this further member of the summer product family, the Nokian HT SUV tyre, covers all of the most popular SUVs sold in Europe.

Strong Start To The Year For New Car Sales

Monday, February 15th, 2010

The automotive industry has started the year on a positive note with a significant increase in the number of new vehicles sold during January.

Official VFACTS data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows that 74,864 passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles were sold in January, up 11.6 per cent (or 7,785 vehicles) on the same month in 2009.

“This is a strong result and provides the market with a confidence boost heading into 2010,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

“Business purchases remained strong in January with some buyers taking delivery of vehicles ordered last year under the Federal Government’s business tax break,” he said.

“New car affordability is better than ever and has been further enhanced by the tariff cut on many imported vehicles,” he said.

“New car buyers have effectively been handed a ‘tax cut’ and many brands have moved quickly to reduce prices or increase vehicle specifications,” Mr McKellar said.

“As a result, it is expected that this will encourage private buyers to return to the marketplace in greater numbers throughout the year,” he said.

Toyota retained the top selling position with a market share of 19.5 per cent; followed by Holden with 14 per cent and then Ford with nine per cent.

GM Tests Show Vibe Brakes Can Stop Unintended Acceleration

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

General Motors has tested two Pontiac Vibe small SUVs and found the brakes stop the vehicle in case of unintended acceleration.

The 2009-10 Pontiac Vibe, a sister vehicle of the Toyota Matrix, is included in two Toyota recalls related to unintended acceleration, one for sticking accelerator pedals and one for possible floor mat entrapment. The Vibe was designed and engineered by Toyota and manufactured through August 2009 at New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI), a joint venture between Toyota and GM.

“We ran the Vibe wide open at 60 miles an hour and the brakes were able to bring the vehicle to a safe stop within 169 meters, consistent with our internal requirement for brake performance.” said Martin Hogan, GM director of brake systems.

In the rare case of a sticking throttle, a driver should apply the brakes firmly and steadily until you come to a stop. Do not pump the brakes, which can deplete the available vacuum boost from the brake system.

Any customer who experiences any accelerator pedal issue should immediately park the vehicle, and have it towed to their GM dealer for an inspection.

GM and Toyota are determining how soon parts for a repair Toyota has identified will be available to GM dealers, where the Vibe repairs will be made. The Vibe braking tests were conducted by GM engineers on Saturday at the Milford Proving Grounds after several customers complained of sticking accelerator pedals following the Toyota recalls involving the Vibe were announced Jan. 21 and 27.

None of the complaints have resulted in a crash or injury.

Prior to the recall announcements, GM had not received any relevant customer complaints in the 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe. Nor were there any complaints found in a search of U.S. and Canadian databases.

GM will communicate with the approximately 99,000 Vibe owners in the United States and Canada as soon as additional information about the recalls is received from Toyota.

Audi Q5 wins OFF ROAD AWARD for 2010

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Audi SUVs are collecting top honors: readers of OFF ROAD magazine have selected the Audi Q5 as the off-road vehicle of the year in the SUV category. The Audi Q7 took third place in the luxury SUV category. The awards were presented last night in Munich.

In the survey of readers, the Audi Q5 took first place in the SUV category. Hans-Joachim Radde, Head of Marketing Germany at AUDI AG, accepted the prize and remarked: “The Audi Q5 combines dynamics and sportiness with a highly variable interior. It’s an all-round talent for recreation and family. And in the long run, that’s what customers in this segment want.”

The Audi Q7 also found favor among the magazine’s readers, taking third place in the luxury SUV category. “Sports, recreation and business – that’s what the Audi Q7 stands for. And with the 3.0 TDI clean diesel, it already meets the strict Euro 6 limits that will come into effect in 2014,” Radde said.

Almost 25,000 OFF ROAD readers cast their votes this year, selecting from 97 models in eight categories. The automotive trade journal has held its reader survey since 1982.
