HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has fully updated the Mazda Carol micro-mini for the Japanese market. Sales of the new Carol commence today at all Mazda Autozam, Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships nationwide.

Mazda Carol XS (FWD model with CVT)

Thanks to its charming design, excellent fuel economy and affordability, the Mazda Carol is popular among women, and supported by a broad range of customers. In its first full remodeling since September 2004, the Carol offers new interior and exterior design. Also featuring reduced curb weight and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an auxiliary gearbox, the Carol provides improved eco-friendliness and even better value for money.

The attractive new exterior design shows off soft, rounded curves that inspire affection. Inside, the instrument panel now has a distinctive circular design. Seats upholstered in a bright combination of beige and brown create a lively, stylish impression. The updated Carol is also more user friendly than ever, with highly visible large dials, an easy-to-use floor-mounted shift lever and several useful storage features.

All model grades offer improved eco-friendliness and qualify as super ultra-low emission vehicles (SU-LEV), with exhaust emissions at least 75 percent lower than Japan’s 2005 standards. The CVT and five-speed manual transmission grades exceed Japan’s “2010 fuel economy standard plus 25%.” The Carol’s automatic transmission grades exceed the “2010 fuel economy standard plus 15%.” The most fuel-efficient versions in the range, the front-wheel drive (FWD) grades with CVT, achieve outstanding figures of 24.5 km/L*. With this outstanding eco-friendly performance, all Carol model grades qualify for Japan’s eco-car tax reduction and incentive programs. Additionally, the new Mazda Carol provides ample safety protection with structures and equipment, such as supplemental restraint system (SRS) airbags, to mitigate potential injuries in the event of a collision. Theft prevention devices, such as a vehicle immobilizer, have also been newly adopted.

Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the new Mazda Carol range from 899,850 to 1,167,600 yen, including sales taxes. The target sales volume is 800 units per month.

Toyota and Hino Restructure Indonesia Truck Production

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Tokyo—TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) and HINO MOTORS, LTD. (Hino) held a line-off ceremony today to mark the consolidation of production of their jointly developed Toyota “Dyna” and Hino “Dutro” light-duty trucks at PT. Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI). The consolidation, which brings the end of production of light-duty trucks at PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), represents optimization of the production structure of the Toyota Group in Indonesia.

“I am positive that by consolidating production of light-duty trucks with truck and bus specialist Hino, we have optimized the Toyota Group’s Indonesian truck manufacturing structure. It is my fervent desire to further serve people in Indonesia through the Toyota and Hino brands”, TMC Managing Officer Mitsuhiro Sonoda said at the ceremony, which was attended by Indonesian Vice President Boediono, Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kojiro Shiojiri and other distinguished guests. Also on hand were Hino President Yoshio Shirai, HMMI President Director Kenji Ohara and representatives of local TMC and Hino affiliates.

The addition of light-duty truck production at HMMI makes the Hino subsidiary a full line-up truck producer, as HMMI was already a producer of medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, as well as of buses. It also boosts HMMI’s annual scale of production from 10,000 to 35,000 vehicles, making HMMI Hino’s largest overseas manufacturing site, and marks the first time for Hino to build vehicles on consignment from TMC outside of Japan. As from before, HMMI trucks will be sold in Indonesia, with Dyna trucks continuing to be sold by Toyota dealers and Dutro trucks continuing to be sold by Hino dealers.

“We hope to see increased sales of both the Hino-produced Dyna and the Hino-brand Dutro, and, as such, are committed to increased production and supply of trucks that meet user needs”, Shirai said.

TMC and Hino, through the production and sales of high quality, highly reliable trucks, intend to continue contributing to the development of Indonesia’s automotive industry and logistics, as well as to local communities.

In its 12th year, the Auto Color Award has been dominated by Nissan, having won five times previously.

1010
Fairlady Z Roadster

Premium Deep Maroon, is the perfect color that captures the elegance and sophistication of the Fairlady Z roadster. The rich dark color looks equally great in the day and evenings, lending a versatile mood and mystique to the car. Maroon has long been a color associated with the Fairlady Z from the first generation 240ZG introduced.

Bordeaux, like its wine namesake, the interior color perfectly compliments the car’s exterior skin, creating a lush feeling of comfort and luxury interior.

Jury comments on the winning color include: “The original color used in the first-generation Fairlady Z has been well evolved into a modern style.” and “It’s an attractive color, which a car owner can get attached to.”

The Fairlady Z Roadster also won the Best Exterior Award in Auto Color Designer Selection, an award selected by designers from each participating auto manufacturer. In addition, the new Fuga luxury sedan (Exterior color: Deep Bronze, Interior color: Brown) released last month was also chosen for the Best Technology Award.
